On October 16, 1900, Australia’s first gas well was discovered in Roma, Queensland while drilling in search of water.
This milestone event was a catalyst that inspired Australians to consider natural gas as an energy resource in Australia. Recognizing this date as Australia’s National Energy Day honors our pioneering beginnings in the energy sector.
Australian National Energy Day is a celebration of all forms of energy, from our innovative renewable energy industry, to natural gas and petroleum, emerging sustainable energy resources, traditional and reliable coal power, and everything in between.
On the 16th of October, hold a lunch as an energy industry and as a nation.
Give appreciation for the energy behind the items which we take for granted every day.
Be proud to live in a nation that has embraced the energy industry throughout it’s history and thrives because of it.
Give a thought to those working hard, often remotely, to unlock this energy and deliver it to the world.
We take this day as an opportunity to raise funds for organisations who provide critical services in support of Australian energy industry activities. We encourage you to make a small contribution to the Royal Flying Doctors Service, in the spirit of Australian National Energy Day.
